Dr Chris Neason

    Dr Chris Neason is a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at La Trobe University and an ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist. He completed his PhD at Monash University’s Eastern Health Clinical School, with a focus on optimising exercise interventions for low back pain.

    His research focuses on the role of higher-intensity, impact exercise in managing chronic low back pain. He recently led the ASTEROID trial, a world-first 12-week randomised controlled study examining the feasibility and effectiveness of running for individuals with chronic low back pain.

    Chris has presented his research at national and international conferences, including the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine in Italy, where he was a finalist for the Best Paper Award. His work aims to challenge traditional exercise paradigms and expand safe, effective treatment options for people with low back pain.
