Prof. Jim Woodburn

Professor Jim Woodburn is Head of the School of Allied Health, Sport and Social Work at Griffith University. An Edinburgh trained podiatrist and clinician scientist, Jim’s work spans biomechanics, arthritis, and diabetic foot disease, with PhD and post-doctoral training at Leeds University, the NIH and the University of Pennsylvania. He has received major UK Medical Research Council Fellowships and led several EU-funded projects, including the groundbreaking A-FOOTPRINT project to develop 3D-printed orthoses. His research increasingly harnesses data science and precision-health approaches featuring gait analysis, modelling, sensors and advanced medical device prototyping and manufacturing. He has attracted over AUD $24M in research funding, supervised 21 PhD students and published over 150 papers. Jim was a past president of British Health Professionals in Rheumatology, a Droitwich Lecturer, and an elected Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in Edinburgh – the first podiatrist to achieve this distinction.
