Associate Professor Leah Heiss is a leader in human centred design for health technologies, systems and services, including wearable technologies for acute care, ageing and hearing loss; and the co-design of models and systems of care including for cancers, mental health and addiction, and global health. She leads the Health Futures research stream in the Emerging Technologies Research Lab at Monash University  and co-leads the Monash Quantum Futures Collaboration, focusing on quantum societal readiness and technology transitions more generally. Leah has collaborated with the World Health Organization and other multilaterals since 2022, bringing together people from 26 countries to understand regional barriers to implementation of health advice and to develop the ‘WHO Design Principles and Tools to support use and impact of WHO Guidelines’ aimed at improving uptake of health guidance globally. Most recently Leah has led co-design processes with 10 countries in the Western Pacific and South-East Asia to inform development of an AI-enabled Living Evidence platform to inform health decision-making with the Australian Living Evidence Collaboration.
